2011 SURVEY RESULTS
On-the Shore Reporting Reveals Island Visitor Stats

Thanks to the folks who helped us canvas Masonboro users last summer! Especially our two star “surveystresses”: Dawn Hoback and Phyllis Bayzle! You gals were awesome!

Here is a summary of the responses we got from 80 folks. Since this is not really a scientific survey by any stretch, we feel okay in asserting that these 80 responses are really representative of a larger grouping. Generally we were talking with one person in a group of 3 or 4 folks who were all nodding their heads yes! So, this survey could represent as many as 200 or 300 folks. The results were interesting, but not unexpected (at least to me):
  • Most respondents are from New Hanover county
  • Most go to MSB 1-2 times a month
  • More offseason trips than I expected to see
  • Most folks have been going for more than 5 years
  • Masonboro is VERY IMPORTANT to 81%
  • About half  (who own a dog) bring a dog often; about half of those let the dog run
  • Only 35% know Coastal Reserve manages Masonboro
  • Only 10% support ban on alchohol
  • 56% were above the age of 40
