RICHARD JOHNSON
President
of Masonboro.org & Coastal Reserve LAC member
Johnson is the founder and president of Masonboro.Org. He formed Masonboro.Org at the start of 20009 in an effort to dissuade regulations and preserve traditional uses of the island.
Johnson focuses his entrepreneurial skills by serving several
non-profit boards (including Wild Aid, Trout Unlimited and the Wilson
Schoolhouse Community Center); the Bucknell University Alumni
Association and UNCW's Cameron School of Business Advisory Board.
Richard lives on Masonboro Sound with his wife, Carole and their four daughters.
HAYWOOD NEWKIRK

Reserve LAC member.
Newkirk received his BA from the University of North Carolina, and MBA from the University of Florida. He is the President of The Clontz Newkirk Real Estate Group, providing valuation services throughout the Carolina's.
He is the President of the Wrightsville Beach
Museum of History Board, Vice President of Masonboro.org. and a member of the
Leadership Advisory Committee for Masonboro Island.
Newkirk is a Boardworks SUP Ambassador, a Surf City
Team Rider, and one of the Co-founders of the Carolina Cup SUP Race. A fifth generation
Masonboro Sound resident, Mr. Newkirk is an avid waterman and proponent of coastal issues. His love of the water is shared with his wife Hae Newkirk, and
his daughters, Elle and Hayley.

NEAL ANDREW

N. Andrew
is president and founder of Andrew Consulting Engineers, P.C. – a structural,
marine and forensic engineering and project management firm in Wilmington, NC.
Professionally, he serves our community as the vice chair of the New
Hanover County Ports, Waterway and Beach Commission , is as an active member of
the Wilmington Rotary and for the Cape Fear 50. He was selected as the PENC
Southeast Chapter Engineer of the Year in 2012. He received a civil
engineering degree from North Carolina State University and his master’s in
structural engineering from Georgia Tech.
Andrew grew
up in the marshes of Masonboro – earning boating rights before he earned his
driver’s license. He became a member of Masonboro.Org in 2010 to protect his 25
year-old family tradition of camping on Masonboro Island each year. He was
appointed to Coastal Reserve’s local advisory committee in 2012 and has served
on Masonboro.Org board since 2011.
BETH ANDREW

B. Andrew
joined the board in 2012 armed with a journalism degree from the University of
North Carolina and a background in non-profit development. She has previously
served as the fundraising coordinator for the Environmental Federation Of North
Carolina [now EarthShare] and as communications coordinator for the Sierra
Club’s North Carolina chapter. As an outdoors enthusiast, she’s an avid
triathlete and USAT coach. She’s a coach for the YWCA’s triathlon club
and for New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s employee fitness center.
When she’s not training for an iron-distance triathlon, you’ll find her
with her husband, Neal and their Boykin Spaniel Sugaree on Masonboro Island.
MIKE BOWER
Masonboro.Org At-Large Board Member
Michael Bower is the Manager of Electronics Engineering and
Technical Support at Buxco Research Systems, a Wilmington-based manufacturer of
instrumentation used for biomedical research and drug discovery. After a successful 20+ year career as a Software Engineer
and Engineering Manager for Vishay Intertechnology in the Raleigh area, Mike ultimately
succumbed to the “call of the sea” and moved his family to the Cape Fear Region
in 2007. Mike attended Paul Smith’s College of Arts and Sciences, SUNY
Institute of Technology, and North Carolina State University. In his spare time, Mike enjoys the quiet solitude of
paddling to Masonboro Island in his kayak, and is an avid photographer and
scuba diver.
